Structural Integration

Based on the body of work developed by biochemist Ida P. Rolf, Structural Integration is a manual therapy technique that focuses on the fascia (connective tissue) rather on the muscles.

Structural Integration can help to correct posture and postural related problems. When one part of the body is out of balance or misaligned, the rest of the body over-compensates until the entire structure is weakened. Through manipulation of the fascia, restricted muscles and joints are loosened. Stiffness and pain dissipate. Flexibility, balance, and posture improve.

The body is significantly affected by the force of gravity, and if It’s misaligned, it can’t use some valuable resources efficiently because it’s trying hard to keep the body upright in the field of gravity. But of course, gravity isn’t the only enemy here… there are other things that can impact a person’s physical structure, like just the stresses of life, or perhaps an injury, or even just unhealthy movement patterns. Over time, the body is going to be impacted by all of these things and it will shorten and tighten to accommodate for these stresses. The result is stiffness, pain, and fatigue. These are the issues that Structural Integration can help with.

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer Structural Integration at Well Into Life Massage. But please check back with us again as we continue to expand our services. Or give us a call to discuss other potential modalities that may be of help to you.
